San Juan Islands Field Trip

Posted Date: 10/29/25 (5:10 PM)

On the weekend of October 18-19, 24 Sandy High School students dove into some science during a field trip to the San Juan Islands in Washington, as part of the Oceanic Science classes and Aquanauts Club. The group enjoyed presentations by marine biologists and local naturalists and saw a number of animals in their wild habitat, including Orcas, bald eagles, steller sea lions, harbor porpoises, Bonaparte gulls, deer and more. Students also learned about the sunflower sea star and the efforts to try and help this endangered species as it battles starfish wasting disease.
